Care. Play. Love. Is the philosophy that Alicia's House of Paws is built on!
The idea that there is more to pet care than feeding, scooping poo and taking dogs for a walk.
Dogs, cats and all small furries require much more to be happy and healthy, fulfilling these needs result in a stronger bond between you and your pet and a happier life all around!
Care involves the basic stuff, feeding, cleaning, general health and the management of any potential dangers. This is where many pet carers stop, they say job done and walk out the door.
I move on to the next task, fulfilling their need for play! I bring different toys with me, mix it up a bit, supervise garden time if appropriate, I might play chase with dogs with food or toys or just me! We have fun, burn off some energy and create positive memories that grow our relationship.
Last but certainly not least, is love! All of our pets need love, yes even the grumpy cats who won't let you touch them!
Love doesn't look the same for all pets, some are happy to be cuddled and kissed! Then I can indulge all my desires to scoop them up and snuggle them! 😁😁
But many pets don't like that, it's too much. Some just aren't used to being touched, and this can be built on, others simply don't appreciate it. This is particularly common in cats, I have a few clients who love to give me love through leg rubbing, purring, rolling over etc, but if I touch them more than a soft head stroke, I get swiped at. 😅
And this is where my experience and expertise in seeing animal behaviour warnings save me from being scratched up and ensure that my visits leave the pet or pets happy! I notice the signs and give them space, I just have to remind myself that if I snuggle them I will loose my face! Haha!
During all of this, I do my best to get a few good pictures to send to owners and let them know how their little one is getting on.
It takes time, more time than I know many cat sitters spend per visit. But a quick in and out would not be worthy of Alicia's House of Paws or your pets. They deserve more and so do you!
You and your pets deserve to life your best life! Full of fun, affection and play!
